Comparison of fatigue performance of HVOF spray coated and conventional roll bonded aluminium bearing alloys

چکیده

A com p ara tive stu d y on fa tigue resistanc e of thin a luminium b e aring lining s (sup porte d b y hard er b a ckin g ste e l layers) pro d uc e d b y hig h ve loc ity oxyfue l (HV O F) s pray coa tin g and conventiona l roll bon d ing (RB) proc esses has shown tha t the former is sup erior to the la tter with similar lining com position (A l–20%Sn–1% C u–0?25%Mn) when com p are d on the b asis of osc illa ting lining surfa c e stra ins und er a thre e p oint b en d test cond ition. In terms of the inte grity of the multilayere d b e aring system und er osc illa ting stresses, HV O F lining a p p e are d to show worse fa tigue resistanc e , due to poor/brittle b on d b e twe en the lining and the b a cking ste e l layer resulting in the d e ta chment of the lining from the b a cking layer. The newly d eve lop e d RB a lloy with re duc e d Sn content (A l–6?5Sn–2?5Si–1N i–1 C u–0?25Mn) and sc a ttere d interme ta llics showe d hig her fa tigue resistanc e than the HV O F an d previous RB systems. This was linke d to d e laye d initia tion of short cra cks le a d in g to a lon g er overa ll life time com p are d to a ll other systems.
